This object is a vase and is just one of many objects that landed at the College of the Holy Cross without leaving any trace of where it came from. Though it is not evident in this photograph, the vase is a salmon pink color with a few strikes of white. The vase has a shiny and glossy texture which reveals that it is a ceramic coated in glaze. My creative piece was based on my desire to highlight the texture of the vase. As a grayscale image, the original vibrant mixture of colors that are present in the object were reduced to make the glossy texture of the object stand out. The top of the vase is defined by a thin white mouth rim. A series of three digit numbers are engraved at the bottom, 692, the meaning remains unknown. The unevenly thin base tells a story of its own. A sharp and glossy edge covers the bottom of the ceramic, which conveys that the manufacturing of this object began at the tips and fingers of an individual. Who, when and where is a question for you to figure out.
