The smoker you drink the player you get- an album by rock star Joe Walsh. This title has stuck with me in my brain for a while. Smoking is a human act that we have been doing for years. A pipe at face value may just seem like a weird looking piece of wood. However, to its owner and user it is much more. As seen by the wear and tear of the pipe, it is something that is interacted with everyday, sometimes all day. A small object turned into an everyday tool. For my creative plate, I wanted to explore the relationship not only from the owner's perspective but from the pipes' perception, as well as from outsiders. By exploring these perspectives, I hope to unveil some kind of relationship. By taking this angle and including my own hands, I hope to expose what a typical pipe user sees everyday, exploring the habitual relationship with the tool he or she uses everyday. I have my late grandfather (Anthony) in mind who was proud of quitting cigarettes when he switched to a pipe- same ritual, different form.
