At first glance, this small sculpture of a girl may appear as just another piece of clutter in an old, dusty attic. However, upon deeper inspection, there is more than what meets the eye. Someone by observing the figurine can gather endless amounts of details and feelings. Every inch of it–from the worn-out socks, to the shading in the dress, to her rosy cheeks–has depth and characteristics. The fingerprint, left behind, on the figurine’s head shows that the object was hand-painted. There is so much expression and story within this figurine. If one were to stare long enough, one could get transported into the scene of reading alongside her on a grassy meadow underneath a swaying willow tree.
To highlight the figurine's characteristics, I utilized a white background to illuminate the contrast between the bright and vibrant colors of the clothes and the dark and muddy details such as the shoes. The white background also helps create a crisp and sharp outline, giving depth to the space between the girl’s leg and the picture book.

Photographs were taken on a white background, the camera positioned about six inches away from the figurine and angled to be level with the figurine. Low overhead lights and lights at the bottom and upper right were used to help create a sense of being outside such as the sun beaming down on the figurine.
