Abstract
“Smashed: Story of a Drunken Girlhood” is the story of a woman, named Koren Zailckas, who abused alcohol through high school and college and essentially had a turbulent romantic bond with alcohol. For my capstone, I used psychological theories on adolescent identity formation and research on the gendered experiences of girls and women in romantic relationships to analyze the aforementioned memoir. I came to the conclusion that authentic relationships are key to the mental and physical well being of adolescents.
