About the Purple
The Purple has served as the College's premier literary journal for over 100 years. The journal's first editor was George J. Walsh and the inaugural issue was published for the 1893-1894 academic year. Since then it has published notables like Timothy Leary, former US Poet Laureate Billy Collins ('63), award winning poet Philip Metres ('92) and many other notable writers.
After Fall and Spring submission periods, the magazine puts out a new edition each year in the Spring showcasing student’s work. Historically, the magazine has exclusively been in print, but an online edition was published during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Spring of 2020, and has put out an online edition in addition to a print run since.
If you’d like to join The Purple’s staff, have any questions, or would like to submit for this year's edition you can contact The Purple’s email, thepurplesubmissions@gmail.com, or the magazine’s advisor, Professor Oliver de la Paz.
