Description

The Catholic social tradition is long and broad, encompassing Catholic social teaching, the work of exemplary individuals, the work of Catholic organizations, and the actions of ordinary parishes and their members as they seek to serve the communities around them. This class considers both formal Catholic Social teaching – the body of official church encyclicals and other documents – and the broader Catholic social tradition of Catholic organizations and individuals and their work. In this class, we’ll explore the key principles underlying Catholic social teaching, such as notions of the common good and solidarity with others, and see some of what is being done to put teaching into action at Catholic colleges and universities.
