Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature
Abstract
What is a Francophone text? Every scholar of French-language literatures is confronted with this question which involves two issues: legitimization and specification. The reflection of the question of legitimization emerges from the need to come out of the shadow of metropolitan French literature; examining the question of specification is necessary because, although a “Francophone text” may leave its readers curious, bewildered, suspicious or even contemptuous, it must be regarded and valued as a literary work whose cogs and milestones must be correctly assessed. This article aims to lay the foundations for a critical approach to Francophone literatures which considers their institutional complexities and integrates them under the banner of the concept of Littératures de la traversée. This concept can be configured in 3D, and through this prism of its three key dimensions, which are deterritorialization, denationalization and the desire of otherness.
