Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature
Abstract
With her book, Aissatou Cissokho goes well beyond what is normally considered to be a simple tourist guidebook. Her social guide focusses on the urban, social and religious aspects of the Senegalese capital. Within these three circles she progressively criticises the education of young people, structures of the State, and the greed of certain religious representatives. By virtue of its openness, however, Dakar, la touriste autochtone evokes other potential problems as well.
