Abstract

Welcome to the 2024 Dr. Charles S. Weiss Summer Research Symposium. This esteemed event, now in its 30th year, serves as a platform for faculty and students from various disciplines at Holy Cross to showcase their accomplishments from the summer of 2024. It is also an opportunity for students to gain insight into the wide range of research possibilities both on and off campus and engage in discussions with faculty about conducting research in the upcoming academic year and summer.

The symposium and program are named after Charles "Chick" Weiss, a venerated professor and scholar who joined the psychology faculty in 1975. With a Ph.D. in neurobiology and physiology from Ohio University, Weiss served as the psychology department chair from 1984 to 1989. He made significant contributions to the College in various roles such as Coordinator of Grants and Research, Director of the Office of Grants and Corporate and Foundation Giving, and Director of Strategic Initiatives and Corporate and Foundation Relations until his retirement in 2016. His efforts were instrumental in bringing major projects like the Integrated Science Complex, Brooks Concert Hall, and the Summer Research Program to fruition.

We hope you thoroughly enjoy browsing through the impressive collection of scholarly work showcased at the symposium.
