Abstract
In this thesis we will explore solitary wave solutions to nonlinear wave equations, specifically the fifth-order Korteweg-de Vries equation and the Ostrovsky equation. A previously known solution for the fifth order KdV equation is found, though through a different process. Also, a method for approximating solutions to the Ostrovsky equation is found using a power series. Questions still remain regarding the convergence of this approximation.
