Description

Our subjective mental life is enormous in scope and richness. We have subjective experiences of color, desire, affection, and control. Yet, as rich as these experiences are, much of the way we conceptualize them does not match the functions and processes the brain carries out to create these experiences. In this class, we’ll cover several areas in which our subjective experiences do not mesh with what is actually being processed by the brain (e.g., If you think you actually “see” colors in your peripheral vision, you are wrong as there are no receptors that process color there!). Cognitive Neuroscience has taught us much about how mental experiences arise from brain function, and this lecture will sample several of these exciting topics.
