Description
Social justice appeals have traditionally relied on empowering the individual and prompting her toward action to provide aid to the “other”; however, digital literacy relies on building and working in a community with fellow members of the community who exist in a state of virtual co-presence with the individual. Ideally, there is no “other”. This session discusses how the integration of digital technology affects the relationship of audience to speaker and audience to subject, and what the implications of those relationships are for those who produce social justice rhetoric and those who use it. Bring your favorite mobile device and come explore the benefits and challenges of working toward social change in digital times.
