Abstract

This paper examines Mamfakinch, a citizen media group which covered a wide array of issues in Morocco. The group excelled at compiling information and disseminating key news stories which resulted in the diversification of a media environment dominated by the state. While influential, Mamfakinch was short-lived and the government was able to reassert its dominance over citizen media. However, the group’s legacy demonstrates the influence of youth digital cultures and their power to mobilize, demand accountability, and command change.
